The primary goal of pony interaction sessions is to facilitate positive experiences with horses and ponies. We do this by creating a safe, supportive learning environment for people to enjoy being around these wonderful animals.
There is a particular emphasis on observing and interpreting how horses interact and relate, and on understanding their innate needs, priorities, communication tools and behaviour. As empathy and insight grows in the human, meaningful relationship based in trust, confidence, and connection becomes possible. Our ponies are equal, highly respected team members in offering this learning and discovery process.
Theoretical understanding is facilitated by talks, demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on activities. Participants have opportunities to develop their leadership and communication skills whilst achieving specific horsemanship goals. Through a combination of presentation and discussion sessions, role play, games, and specific interactions with our ponies, people learn about things like the difference between passivity, aggression and assertiveness; creating plans and how to use and adapt them; clarity and consistency in communication; self-awareness, self-control and congruency; the value of rules and boundaries, and countless other skills.
Pony Interaction sessions are tailored to the needs of the individual. Some people just want to 'be' in the presence of the ponies. Some want to groom them and participate in their care. Others want to understand a bit about the language of horses. And for some it becomes an absorbing passion that keeps them returning again and again.
